Cookie exchange, Christmas, and Craftiness

Life has been busy.

We spent Thanksgiving at home this year. Dinner was at a neighbor's house. We had a really nice time with new friends.

Girl Scouts have been working on their Thinking Day projects - swap items, presentation, and learning about Brasil. Last week the girls made Christmas decorations and did a cookie exchange. It was nice.

Christmas this year will be a little different. We're going to The Bahamas instead of Jamaica thanks to a virus called Chikungunya.

Updates...up-to-date?

February brought a fun, last-minute trip to DisneyWorld. Daddy & I decided to take the girls out of school for a few days and fly down (booked a great trip through Costco Travel). Skipped the Spring Break madness and it was awesome. I wasn't sure the girls were the "right" age but it really is the "happiest place on Earth" and "magical." They loved it, didn't complain about the long days/nights, great behavior. And Nana flew up to spend the week with us. It was really nice.

March brought Spring Break. We didn't go anywhere, but the girls & I managed to have some fun while Daddy worked. We went to paint one day with friends. Another day we went to the movies with J & N (saw the Muppet Movie).

April has been quiet (mommy wrapped up in tax time). Easter was later this year, too. Libby participated in the school Peeps diorama contest. Her book that she based it on is "Sleeping Beauty." She called it "Sleeping Peep." She sketched out the scene, came up with characters and materials. It was fun working on it over a few days.

The girls have spring colds now. I kept Sabrina home on Thurs as she had a low-grade fever, but everyone seems better.

Libby is growing up so fast. It's bittersweet some days. She's been reading to herself a lot more. We talk about responsibility and integrity as there have been some incidents of fibbing. Hoping we can nip it in the bud. That said, she's a fantastic big sister and a fun kid.

Little sis is following in her foot steps, too. It's hard to remember that she's not even 4 yet. She pretends to read books, her drawings have become more detailed, and her lettering is really clear.  Still going through some Jekyll & Hyde moments but the hugs and kisses can't be beat.

Oh and Libby has about 3 loose teeth at the moment - top 2 front teeth, and another 1 on the top. I hope the Tooth Fairy is saving her pennies.

December 2013 - really???

This year just seems to be disappearing!

The girls & I went to MD for Thanksgiving. Our trip got cut short by a day as bad weather in Dallas cancelled our original outbound flight. But we had a great time. It was cold & raining the first few days, but we went shopping and to the B&O Railroad Museum. The girls are such good travelers.

I've been busy with my business and the girls & Daddy have been really supportive. It's nice to be able to show the girls that Mommies work, too.

Libby is doing really well in Math. I'm proud of her progress. I think we could do more work with Literacy but I'm waiting to hear from her teacher on how to proceed. She is doing great with sight words and reads well at home, but I don't see her spelling and sounding out of words improving. She loves to make "books" everyday though. She folds a sheet of paper in half and draws pictures to represent the book.

November 2013

Halloween was busy again this year. Both girls had parties at school, then we went trick or treating at Daddy's office, then came home to TOT in the neighborhood. Libby really pushed through this year. She started out with Daddy & Sabrina, then went out for round 2 with me when Sabrina was getting cold.

November has been flying by already. I can't make time slow down. Libby is doing well in school. Little sis finally got a spot in preschool at Libby's school. So, we all get to go to school together in the morning. A huge help :)

Fall 2013 conferences

I'm so proud of my Libby! I went to her Parent-Teacher conference yesterday. It's really, really nice to sit down and have the teacher look at you sort of blankly. I'm serious :) Because they have nothing bad to say! No issues. No problems. No concerns. Then, she hands you a report card full of good scores and a stack of papers that she's complied to show your child's progress. Math, Science, Spelling. Everything is "on track." Can you see me beaming with pride? I've been worried b/c O hasn't had much good to say about school and we've struggled every night with homework. My lesson (a continuing one): she's good at school, a different kid for her teacher. She's doing well and I'm happy.

The book fair always coincides with conferences. This year the girls & I went on a joint trip with our new neighbor friends. It's pretty magical to see kids excited about books. O asked me to go back and look for the 2nd installment in a My Little Pony comic that we bought.

Another tooth is loose. Not the one I expected, but one nonetheless. Little sis wants a wiggly tooth, too.

S is doing well in preschool. She is always tired when I pick her up, but she enjoys it. She gives me a full report of who was at school and what they did. It's really sweet.

We had a 2nd annual Fall Party with our good friends last week. HP hosted again at her house. Such a fun time seeing our kids grow and play together still after all these years. The kids had their costumes, made crafts, played games, ate yummy food. O is a Monster High girl this year...and Sabrina is Princess Ariel ("on HUMAN LEGS!")

Happy 2013!

Well, it's a new year and Libby FINALLY lost her 1st tooth. So excited and a bit sad. Baby girl is growing up. It's been loose for so long that the new tooth has been growing in behind it (shark tooth).

The last week of school before the break started was a bust. We spent the Monday up in Aurora getting Olivia's passport renewed. Tuesday, I kept Olivia home because she had a cold and Wednesday, the last day, we had a blizzard. Schools were closed. I wound up taking the girls to the pediatrician that day. Turns out both girls had double ear infections. Thankfully, we discovered it a few days before we left on our trip, so they recovered pretty well (Amox 2x/day for 10 days, 10ml for O and 5ml for S).

We had a nice trip to Jamaica for Christmas and New Year's. Sabrina had a tough time with her ears on the landings of the planes (we had 3 flights) and true to form, O put up a fight with her medicine, though she toughened up in front of her cousins.

Behavior during the trip was pretty bad, but improved over previous years. I guess she gets too tired running all day and night with the big kids and starts acting out ?? Things have been better since we got home on the 1st. I hope these few days of recovery will leave her in good spirits when school starts back on Monday.

The girls swam in the pool, played in the yard on the zip line and had tons of fun with their cousins.

Recovering from the break

Seems like we're having a tough time getting back in gear after the break. O is sleepy and been having tummy pains for the last 2 days.

Books from library:
"Sister Tricksters: Rollicking Tales of Clever Females" by Robert D. San Souci
"Lily's Purple Plastic Purse" by Kevin Henkes
"Olivia" by Ian Falconer
"Little Lucy" by Ilene Cooper

I'm surprised at how much O seems to enjoy "Sister Tricksters." It doesn't have many pictures and is written in a Southern dialect.

We stayed busy during the break. Started off with Olivia having a sleepover w/Ms. Angie's girls on the Sabrina had ballet, but Olivia did not. We went to the gym one day so that Mommy could work out, then had lunch with Daddy. Later that day we went and painted ornaments for Christmas. We also hung out w/Ms. Angie and her girls one day. Then, gobbled up a "plump & perky turkey" as O calls it on Thanksgiving. We went to paint one day and O made a painting for Dede and one for Nana. The weather was pretty nice all week, so the girls had time to play outside, too. We finished up the break with O having a birthday party for a former preschool friend, who now takes ballet with her.

Olivia had a presentation for school yesterday for the How We Express Ourselves planner. She interviewed Oma about the games she played as a child and researched the games they play in Germany. I got to see her present and she did a fantastic job. She wore my old dirndl to present, too :)

Literacy folder had "Get the Gag" Decodeable No. 14 this week. She's been up to No. 20 "Red Hen and Rod Rat" but books come out of order sometimes. She's doing really well with sight words, read about 30 of the ones on her ring last night. Though she's still having trouble with a few on the "High Frequency" word list.

Little sister is getting dressed and putting on her pull-up by herself.  Miss Independent. She likes to play with the Leapster, dress up like a princess or a witch, color and play with dolls/babies.

Halloween 2012

Libby was a Winx fairy this year and Sabrina took a turn in the Raggedy Anne costume.

The class had a Halloween party in the morning, including games of pin the spider on the web and pumpkin bowling. Sabrina and I got to go up to school for the party and went back up to have lunch later with Olivia.  After school, Libby had ballet. Then we came home for a quick bite to eat before going out to trick-or-treat. I took the girls out while Daddy stayed home to pass out candy. The girls did really well and we were lucky to have some warmer weather for the night.

New library books:
"If I were an Ant" by Amy Moses
"A Little Princess" by Frances Hodgson Burnett, adapted by Deborah Hautzig ("This book seemed familiar to me, mama." It should be. We read "A Little Princess"- a longer version.)
"Madeline and the Gypsies"by Ludwig Bemelmans
"A Frog in the Bog" by Karma Wilson

September '12

Mommy is trying hard to keep up w/school. Libby came home w/A LOT of stuff on Friday. Scholastic order forms, Fund Run info, Learner Profile Activity kit, library book, journal, number writing, September activities sheet...And we had to review her "Chat" presentation on rules as she presents today. We chose a rule from Cyprus (remove shoes before entering a house) to share.
Library Book: "The Night of the Fireflies" by Karen B. Winnick
Learner Profile attribute: Open-minded ("Snow in Jerusalem" by Deborah da Costa)

Monday was a holiday for Labor Day and Tuesday was a Teacher work day, so no students. Another short week, which is probably good for Libby. She was well-tired after her 1st full week last week.

We got up early on Saturday to go to the Balloon Classic. We were running late since O didn't want to wake up, but we managed to see Smokey the Bear balloon taking off. Then, we went camping out in Coaldale at Hayden Creek for a few days. While there we went on hikes, played at the playground, played mini-golf, drove to Salida for dinner, walked to the stables to see horses, went swimming, made s'mores and had fun :)

Back to "work"

Back to school today! Spring Break went by too fast. We did get to have lunch w/Daddy one day and go to the Air & Space Museum up in Denver w/Daddy Friday. Having a 3-day weekend w/Daddy was nice. The weather was so warm that we spent the majority of our time outside. Olivia played w/neighbors, Evie and Brooke. We had almost an entire week of "good" days.

Olivia started using her ACT anti-cavity rinse after brushing at night. She doesn't enjoy it but I'm not giving her a choice. She has to get used to it to keep those teeth strong.

I bought Olivia some new flip-flops just in time for the nice weather. Those big puppy feet need a 12/13 in flip/flops.

Sabrina is going through some early terrible-2s behavior. Everything is "NO!" and she's very particular about what she does or does NOT want. It's good that she can express it but frustrating that she chooses to be so aggressive and loud.

Welcome, Spring

Springtime! Well, Spring Break time...No school again until April. That sounds frightening. lol.

We had parent/teacher conference this morning. Olivia is doing really well and seems to be ready for Kindergarten. I know the teacher doesn't have much for us to discuss, but it's good to go in and be reassured. Getting Daddy in the habit of coming with us is good, too.

We went to MD for Thanksgiving this year. The girls did great on the planes even with a 7am departure from BWI. We took them to the aquarium one day w/Auntie D and they got to play at the elementary school I went to as a kid.

Book of the week: "I'm Dirty"
word of the week: no word this week

Happy New Year 2011

We spent the holidays w/Daddy's family in Nassau this year. It was a great trip. Sabrina's first time flying & she was perfect. Olivia did really well, too. She stayed occupied w/some "mess free" coloring books, DVD player & Tag reader (Disney Tangled is her fave book).

Seeing all of the cousins together & playing this year was so nice. They range in age from 10 years to 5 months, at the moment, but they were all together, having fun.

So neat to see Sabrina recognizing Olivia's name. We say, "Where's Olivia?" and she turns her head to where she sees or hears Olivia. She still doesn't seem to like the rice cereal. We haven't had much success. Might be time to move on to oatmeal...

It might be time to get switch Sabrina out to the convertible car seat now, too. She seemed to sit well in it while on vacation and she's getting tall for the infant car seat.

Book of the week: "A Splendid Friend, Indeed" by Suzanne Bloom

Thanksgiving was nice, though Daddy didn't eat with us. He had a bad cold. So, Olivia, Sabrina & I went to dinner at Ms. Heidi's. We ate w/Ms. Heidi, Mr. Rob, Zachary, Heidi's parents, Ms. Angie, Mr. Steve, Taylor, Hayley & Lauryn.

Our first snow was Nov. 10th.

Sabrina is wearing 9 months sized clothes now. She fits in some 6 month stuff but her feet are too big for the footed pjs. I think we may need to move up to size 3 diapers soon, too.
Tried Sabrina in the exersaucer a few times. She's not quite strong enough to sit in it, but she'll try to play for a few mins.

Halloween

Had a great Halloween last night. Olivia dressed up as Belle from Beauty & the Beast and Mommy was the Beast. We went out w/Sothy, Darrin & the kids. It was a little chilly, but not bad.

Sabrina stayed home w/Daddy to pass out candy :) She is getting to be a rolly poly. She doesn't actually roll over, but she is def rockin around in the crib. Finding her in diff positions. She's getting so big - moving to size 2 diapers, 6 months clothes.

Happy New Year - 2010!

Olivia is running around pretending to be at the beach, throwing a beach ball, while serving tea w/her Snow White tea set. It's going to be a great year ;)

Potty training is still hit or miss. Though today seems to be a new day of her wanting to wear big girl panties & actually telling me when she has to go. Vs the old days of me asking her every 30 mins.

We went for her seasonal flu booster shot the other day. It was the first time she showed any sign of understanding what was about to happen. It didn't end well. Many tears. But I partly blame the nurse. She seemed tired of giving shots & wasn't very gentle.

Olivia saw her 2nd movie @ the theater last week - The Princess and the Frog. She really liked it. I was worried during the voodoo scenes, but she was the best kid in the theater & made us proud.

We spent the holidays in Jamaica w/Nana & Popsi. Olivia had a great time w/all of her cousins. She went swimming, played in the tree house & partied w/family.

Can't believe her 3rd birthday is around the corner.

Happy Father's Day '09

Happy Father's Day to all of the Daddies!

We gave Daddy his presents this morning. Olivia made a picture frame for him at a paint-your-own-pottery place a few weeks ago. Also, I gave Daddy a set of stainless skewers for the grill. We called Dede in AK to say Happy Father's Day. Poppsi was at church, so we have to remember to call him later. Later, we went for a hike at Bear Creek Nature Center. It was a great day. Warm, but a nice breeze. Olivia loved seeing all of the ladybugs. There were also tons of birds & the occasional butterfly. She did really well keeping up even on the "moderate" trails. After wards, we went for lunch & ice cream in Old Colorado City.

Happy 2009

Happy New Year! 2009 is here. Olivia spent the last weeks of 2008 with her Nana, Popsi, Aunt Tracie, Uncle Bryan, Aunt Tina, Uncle Wesley and all of her cousins. It was nice to have all of the family out to see us. Unfortunately, everyone was sick so we didn't get out to do much, but we had some fun. The kids got to go to the zoo, to the dinosaur center and IT'Z (a few times). Some shopping was done before & after xmas. And of course, xmas day was filled with tons of toys, books, laughs and smiles. We celebrated the new year w/a family dinner at a local sushi restaurant, then watched the ball drop in Times Square.

Popcorn & stroller

Olivia had popcorn for the first time tonight while watching...duh, Finding Nemo. We went out earlier for pizza and she wolfed down nearly 1 1/2 slices (NY style pizza). Someone woke up hungry from her nap...

She also has a new fave toy. We went to Daddy's work xmas party this week and they give gifts to every child of every employee. Olivia got a stroller for her dolls. We had her stuffed cat with us at the time, so it was the first rider. She wants to take that stroller everywhere. It's tough when she melts down when we tell her no (as in when she wants to put it up on the couch or take it in to a store). I'm glad she enjoys it but I'm looking at all of her other toys wondering when she'll play with them again (or if I should pack them up).

We're getting ready for all of Daddy's family to arrive. They're all coming in for xmas & new year's :)

Thanksgiving '08

We had such a nice Thanksgiving with my friend, Arlene and her family. Olivia had so much fun playing with the twins, Victoria & Evan. The food was delicious and the company was great. I couldn't have asked for a better day. We drove home in some snow which I wasn't mentally prepared for, but it looked pretty :)
